Distance and Online Learning Community of Practice Presentations and Discussions

The New Year is here, and with it, OCULL’s Distance and Online Learning Community of Practice is happy to announce the beginning of their monthly Community of Practice Presentations and Discussions!

This year, the Distance and Online Learning Community of Practice is planning to hold a number of discussion sessions and presentations that focus on teaching and learning in distance education and we are looking forward to engaging in meaningful discussion with you!

Join us on Tuesday, February 27th at 11:00 AM for our premier presentation, “Faculty Development – A Research Project at Queen’s”. Presenter(s): Beverly King, Assistant Dean (Teaching and Learning), Queen’s University.

Description:

In this session we will present preliminary observations and findings from a study into the course development process with instructors who are designing online courses for the first time. It is well known that to produce quality online courses, instructors need focused opportunities to develop knowledge and competencies around research-based practices in online learning. Studying three cases describing instructors’ experiences in being supported by course development teams, we explore possible transformation in the instructors’ beliefs and pedagogy to online course design and delivery.
