Getting Started With Open Educational Resources (OERs)

What are Open Educational Resources (OERs) and how can they support your teaching? What is the difference between an OER and other electronic content available through the library?

In this session, we will:

  • Identify the different formats of OERs: From slide decks to textbooks
  • Provide a brief introduction to Creative Commons licensing as it relates to OERs
  • Explore the 5Rs of Using OERs (Retain, Reuse, Revise, Remix and Redistribute) and how these Rs can allow for the development of course-specific content
  • Introduce tools, such as repositories and guides, to help you discover OERs relevant to your course
  • Introduce library supports and services for finding, modifying and using OERs
